If you are having trouble posting messages on the forums, there suddenly seems to be a bug with using accented characters, including the euro symbol. If you use these characters, you will get an error message that says:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1245184 bytes) in /home/lee/public_html/assistants/forums/includes/utf/data/utf_compatibility_decomp.php on line 2

You just need to replace all accented characters with regular characters and you should be able to post. I'm not quite sure what is causing this problem or why it is just now happening.

Site Changes

I have been working to upgrade the Assistants in France website gradually over time. With relatively little downtime (there was a three-day span where the home page wasn't available), all of the applications that run this site are now in their current and upgraded versions, without any losses to the database. So - yay!

Meanwhile, I reverted to default skins because I hadn't upgraded in awhile, and I thought it would be a good time to start everything with a clean slate. So I realize things are a little drab around here for the moment, but that will change - and the basic blue look of both this page and the forum pages doesn't affect the overall content. So keep on chatting in the forums and don't mind the occasional font change, missing header, whatever... there may be some turbulence in the coming weeks but our engines are still in tact.

Thanks in advance for your patience.

Upgrade

I just did a big site upgrade. The look of the site is the default forum template -- that will change over time. However, it appears that most of the functions are working ok and that your beloved forums are back online. Check out some of the new features.

I will still be gone for a bit and will only get to work on the look of the forums here and there. Please be patient as the upgrade process is completed -- there may be an occasional glitch or two. Thanks in advance for your understanding!

Heads Up! Site down time

Before I head off on my vacation, I am doing some much-needed upgrades. Hopefully the site won't be down very long, and then it will be smooth and shiny!

I apologize for the temporary inconvenience.

MIA

This is Lee Ann, with just a brief note. I will be traveling over the next 10 days and will most likely not be checking my email (or doing so very rarely). This means account activations will be put on hold or significantly slowed down. Please be patient and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Anybody interested?

If anyone would like to lend a hand with the site, shoot me an email. I've got my hands pretty full with a new town, new job, and a newly-toddling toddler, so any help is appreciated. I started these forums in 2003 and did not really think they would explode as much as they have. It's a great thing, but there's some upkeep to do, and I find I am not always available for it as I would like to be.

Especially anyone with knowledge of PHP and MySQL would be great. I'm hoping to get into the PhpBB forums and figure out a better way to fight the spammers -- is there a dork out there who is up to the challenge? I say dork lovingly, of course, as I myself was nerdy enough to even create this site in the first place (for fun... :::blush:::)

Likewise, if someone is interested in keeping up the blog side of things, that would be cool too...

Pause

I will be out of town from February 3 through February 6 and will most likely not be near a computer. Please be patient if you are a new user and sign up for an account, as I cannot guarantee the usual turnaround. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience.
